Case Study - 5 Therry St, Watson
This property is typical of many houses built during the 1960s in the older suburbs of Canberra. It possessed excellent bones, with light flooding in through the large windows, inviting the garden in. The owners had already made some substantial renovations to the property, including a new kitchen and cabinetry in the living areas. The house had also been freshly painted in neutral tones and the floorboards shone throughout, giving us a perfect foundation to work with.
The vendors were in a position to leave many of the larger pieces of furniture for us to use, including their sofa, dining table and chairs, beds and some smaller items, which also reduced their overall cost. To complement this, we added extra pieces of furniture and accessories such as lamps, rugs, objects and plants. By rearranging the placement of furniture in the rooms and confidently combining the vendor's furniture with our own, resulted in a quirky mix of colonial, mid century and contemporary styles which worked together to produce an eclectic yet warm aesthetic.
An added bonus, in this particular case, was that the clients owned some stunning pieces of artwork which added real class to the rooms. One should never underestimate the impact of quality artwork and its ability to truly transform a space.
The house sold at auction.
“Suzy and Mel at Sold On Styling effortlessly gave a new lease of life to our 1960s Watson home. They have an expert understanding of the changing real estate market and work with the eye of the buyer in mind. Their styling not only highlighted the things we had grown to love about our home but also articulated the flexibility and potential uses of each room. They made use of quite a bit of our existing furniture which they combined with their own designer pieces to create a stylish, colourful ambience in each room. The simple suggestion to repaint our letterbox and front door introduced a fresh, vibrant feel to the house as you approached it from the street which was followed through inside and emphasised in the marketing campaign. We achieved a sale price around $30,000 higher than we expected - and we have the feeling that Sold On Styling had a big part to play in this excellent result."
